Ultimate Gray and Illuminating (Yellow) are the Pantone Institute's 2021 Colors of the Year - two independent hues that highlight how different elements can come together to support one another.
It's a color story, according to the Institute, 'that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.'
Ultimate Gray is the color of solid and dependable elements such as rocks. Their weathered appearance is a testament to their resilience - to their ability to stand the test of time. Illuminating, on the other hand, is bright and cheerful. Just like the sun's brilliant rays, it has the ability to warm our soul and renew our spirit.
A marriage of color conveying
a message of strength and hopefulness
that is both
enduring and uplifting.
Last year, I wrote about Classic Blue and the three reasons - calm, confidence and connection - it was chosen as 2020's Color of the Year. I hoped the first year of the new decade would bring me clarity in the form of 2020 vision - and it did. I learned to remain calm in the face of uncertainty and gained a truer appreciation for staying connected to my friends and family.
This year, I'm not hoping for perfect vision. Instead, I hope my vision is obstructed. I want to squint from the brightness of the illuminating sun as I optimistically walk out 2021 on a solid weathered gray foundation.
